Friends of Film

The object of the group is for a relaxed and informal gathering of like-minded people with a love of film. It's a great way to get together, meet new people and socialize with others who share your interest in cinema.

Film genres are varied to appeal to all tastes. The period may cover silents and early sound, up to an occasional newer title that would interest the group. All film genres will be included - Action, Adventure, Comedy, Crime, Drama, Epics, Film Noir, Horror, Thriller, Musicals, Romance, Science Fiction, War, Westerns, Cult and Documentaries to name a few.

Annual household membership is $28 and you are welcome to invite guests and family to screenings. Sorry no drinks & food permissible in the theatre. A casual clean dress attire is expected and we reserve the right of admission.

All programme material will be of a nature that’s not currently screening at any cinema chain. All content screened will have finished its theatrical release, we have no intention of stepping on anyone’s toes.

Our State Theatre features the “best of the best” being the first 8K projection in NZ with 13.4 Dolby Atmos sound. 150” curved cinemascope screen with anamorphic projection. French seating and luxury to boot adds to the enjoyment, your screening experience will most certainly be “second to none”. 

Screenings are held every other Tuesday at 1.30pm and every other Thursday at 7pm in our luxury 12 seat State Cinema at Devonport. Our State is fully air-conditioned for your comfort. 

We are only a 12 minute flat waterfront walk from the ferry Building. Welcome to our home and State Theatre, your hosts are Murray & Domenico.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON 1.30PM ARRIVAL - 1ST TUES OF THE MONTH - COST $17 PP ALL INCLUSIVE
The format of the daytime screenings are casual and relaxed. Prior to the start of the film its our usual 30 minute "Meet & Greet" with complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits. There will be an introduction to the feature with an explanation of the selected shorts and coming attraction trailers. The screening should conclude approximately 4PM depending on the running time of the main feature.
 

THURSDAYS EVENING 7PM ARRIVAL - THIRD THURS OF THE MONTH - COST $28 PP ALL INCLUSIVE
The format of the evening screenings will be an initial 30 minute “Meet & Greet” over a complimentary glass of wine & nibbles. There will be an introduction to the movie of the night and any interesting “tit bits” forming part of the program. At 7.30pm sharp, the programme will commence. It may include some short subjects depending of the running time and coming future attractions/trailers. At the end of the screening, tea, coffee and biscuits will be served for those who want to stay on a bit to share any thoughts and ideas from the show. The evening will conclude 30 minutes later, around 10.30 / 11.pm.

From time to time, group film discussions may also be part of the program.
