Always a wonderful joyful experience , a homely , comfy , warm experience you don't get in public theatres and Murray and Dominico are such attentive and caring hosts , night time sessions wine and nibbles , tea and coffee and daytime sessions tea and coffee and biscuits for a not expensive price for what we get and the movie theatre attached to their home that seats twelve , oh so luxurious and intimate , we make friends here. Everything about Friends of Film works well - it is easy to book and the payment system is efficient. The wide ranging variety of movies makes belonging very interesting and enjoyable. Murray is an excellent host and is always very knowledgeable about the movies on show. Belonging to the Friends Of Film has been a great experience. Lesley Pether 12/0/2021
I have been a member for more than two years now and have very rarely missed a Thursday night show, mainly due to being too slow to reserve a seat, or due to illness. One thing is for certain, you have not experienced a film, nor presented the way it should be, until you have been to the State Theatre. It is a film experience unlike any other. With state of the art sound and projection equipment, and a show carefully and masterfully prepared to enhance the experience, Murray and Domenico are also the perfect hosts with a wealth of knowledge about the films they show. The STATE Theatre is the best small theatre in New Zealand. Top gear and top films. Good mix of current and Classics.The setting is magical and the hosts who could asked for anyone better. Come as often as I can and am trying to be a more regular supporter. Robert Thompson

What a wonderful night we had last night - we loved it. You two are great hosts and the 'State' is a delight. We both enjoyed 'The Age of Adaline' . it reminded me - a little - of the idea behind 'The picture of Dorian Grey. Interesting problems posed but I also rather enjoyed the funny little quirks - especially the look-alike Harrison Ford - a great performance. Had my first Thursday night at Murray and Domenico's house recently to see ' All About Eve ' starring Bette Davis in their beautiful so comfy little theatre inside their fascinating home . Had a wonderful night so relaxing and so looked after by such attentive hosts as Murray and Dominico . Enjoyed a huge glass of wine offered a choice of three and nibbles before the movie and tea coffee and biscuits offered after . Cant wait to go back for more relaxing nights a wonderful form of escapism and now that Tuesday 1.30 pm matinees are starting as an extra choice on the alternative week to the Thursday night movie I will often be attending both. - Diana Short
Thanks for a wonderful evening last night - the State is now firmly established as our favourite movie house. It was really lovely to be able to meet and talk to you and Domenico, and the other guests. Then inside we got the proper movie experience with curtains, lights and great sound. My only fear is that it will become so popular that we may not be able to get in. A slice of history, so lovingly re-created, The State cinema is an absolute delight. I arrived on my bicycle on a wet and windy Thursday evening and was greeted with wine, nibbles and such gracious hospitality from Murray, Domenico and their two cats. Stepping into the cinema itself was like slipping into another dimension and the film transported me to another time and place altogether. What a gem, thank you so much! - Alison Arnold
